The best funky wedding venues in London

When it comes to planning a wedding, some people choose to go down the traditional route, whereas others prefer something a little off the beaten track that will help make their big day stand out from the crowd. If the latter appeals to you, the following venues would be a great place to start.

Loft Studios

Loft Studios

Found in West London, Loft Studios is one of the city’s very best studio complexes that boasts a mammoth 2000 person maximum capacity. The interior cleverly combines a raw, industrial setting with stylish and contemporary finishes to make it really appeal to the masses without being your run of the mill venue. The natural brickwork and exposed beams bring the charm, while high ceilings, large windows and skylights create a bright and airy atmosphere that is ideal for a wedding. In terms of transport links, it is easily reached from Wilesden Junction underground and Kensal Green overground stations.

Friendly Place

Friendly Place

Originally built as a warehouse in the 1930s, Friendly Place is now a multi-purpose event venue that is spread across a generous 7500 square feet and 4 floors in all. Capitalising on the industrial chic of the setting, the space inside is split across a number of different areas, most useful of all being the several spacious studio rooms. Organising catering for your guests should certainly not be a problem, with a wonderful, fully-functioning commercial kitchen onsite, as well as handy kitchenettes on each floor. As for outside, there is plenty of available parking and pretty, mature gardens.

MC Motors

MC Motors

MC Motors has undoubtedly one of the most chequered and interesting histories out of all of London’s many venues. The largest area began life as part of a school but following damage in the heavy bombing of the war, it has gone through a number of guises, including but not limited to, a boiler maintenance depot and a car mechanics. Now, as a spacious 6000 square feet event space topped by a sky-lighted roof, it has become a versatile venue that makes a wonderful backdrop for a funky wedding – the character and charm practically oozing from the walls.

The MangleHangar

The Mangle is a large and adaptable venue that can hold up to 720 guests. The fully licenced industrial basement area is a blank canvas, allowing you to tailor make your big day when it comes to the style of the décor. There are various art and music spaces, a canteen/bar and onsite stage lighting and PA system, keeping your guests both busy and entertained throughout. In terms of getting there, there are plenty of transport options, including London Fields train station and Bethnal Green tube station both close by, and full drive in access from street level.

Number 90

Number90

Number 90 Bar and Kitchen is a stunning converted warehouse in Hackney Wick, just a 2 minute walk from the overground station of the same name. The high ceilings and handcrafted wooden furniture make it a bright and charming place that is full of unique character – the ideal place to gather with loved ones. Alternatively, the good sized waterside terrace overlooking the canal is great for those who prefer al fresco celebrations. The capacity is as generous as the space on offer would suggest, with space for up to 450 people per reception.

Oval Space

Oval Space is a warehouse style venue that offers up an impressive 5000 square feet of uninterrupted space. This therefore makes it a highly versatile choice, being suitable for any number of different occasions. If you are planning to marry in the summer, there are also two terraced areas on the South and West sides, perfect for getting out into the fresh air and possibly even organising a BBQ style reception for your guests, of whom you can invite a whopping 1000. With a train station and a tube station each no more than 7 minutes away, those many guests should find the party with ease.

Hoxton Docks

For another venue with outdoor options, Hoxton Docks is well worth your consideration. Not only does this location offer a large courtyard, there are also two rooftop areas that you can also utilise should you be lucky enough to get good weather for your big day. As for the inside, it’s an ex-coal storage facility that is now also easily adaptable to suit lots of different events. The backdrop is so appealing in fact, it has been used as a set for photoshoots and filming projects, but as for your reception, there is ample space for up to 700 guests and good nearby transport links.

The Roost

The Roost

If vintage style topped off with quirky props and bold, outlandish artwork is your thing, then The Roost is for you. This four floor Victorian pub was built in 1863 and it retains many of its original features, making this a warm and inviting venue. The cosy yet grand ambience is accented by modern touches, and from the patterned wallpapers to the big fireplaces, there’s always something to draw the eye. For all its homely charm, it is still a highly practical setting, with a 250 person capacity and a location just 2 minutes from Hackney Downs train station.
